LED is worldwidely appreciated as the eco-friendly and high efficient light source for 21st century. However, the prices of LED lighting products at the very beginning was expensive to touch, which had been regarded as the luxurouis products for the nobles. With the increasinly developed technology on LED lighting efficiency, the prices on LED have been lowed a lot. However, the public still feel LED lighting products expecially the led bulbs are more expensive than the level they could afford to. So when should the LED bulbs be affordable is still under discussion up to now.
Here the LED bulbs are affordable. A lot of global signs have emerged indicating that the price of LED lighting bulbs could soon decline sharply and move closer to a level that mass-market consumers can afford.
A report today in India's The Economic Times says that in that country, "prices of LED lamps and luminaires have almost halved in the past 6-9 months." Lamps – by which the article seems to mean "bulbs" -have declined to “as low as Rs 600 ($13), down from above Rs 1,000 ($22)," it says. Luminaires "now start at Rs 2,000 ($44)," it states.
Meanwhile, the prices for chips has been decreased globally in the past months. As is known, chips is an important element for building led bulbs and lighting products. At the same time, with the overproduction on led chips, the prices shows seriously falling tendency. Korean manufacturers are all either curtailing expansion plans or slashing prices to clear inventory. All the above mentioned factors result in the fall of prices on chips.
With the growingly decline in prices of chips, the cost price on led bulbs and lighting applications will be greatly lowered. It is foreseen that the era of affordable LED bulbs will come soon.
